The Most Important SEO Step You're Overlooking

To make this clock function, there's multiple little gears constantly working together. Some are bigger than others, but when one gear would go missing, the clock stops working - regardless of the gear size.

Now, does this mean that if your overlooking one SEO element, your website stops appearing on search engine results? Well, luckily Search engines are a bit more forgiving than a clock!
What clock gears does your website need to work properly for search engines, well here's a couple important ones - don't worry, I'll get to the one you're most likely overlooking shortly!

On-site SEO
  • titles, description
  • content, headers
  • unique content
Off-site SEO
  • quality back links
  • social media interaction

These are the basic gears (along with many smaller gears) of the SEO clock, and you're most likely already investing time or money on this.

The fact you're reading this article this far proves you are.

Almost sounds like sales copy right? OK, back to the clock.

Now what is the one thing you or your SEO specialist is overlooking?

The answer you've been waiting for (drum roll): The batteries - the energy that solely can make the clock stop working.

You're probably thinking, OK enough with the metaphors already... Batteries??

Fair enough, what I refer to as the batteries, or the SEO energy is simple and makes total sense.

It's the effort and passion you put into your online business, and it will automatically translate itself in results.

You can hire all the SEO specialists in the world, but none of them know your business - or feel the passion for your business - like you do!

Example:

As a self employed web designer, I've worked on countless of projects over the years. I've encountered individuals that had a page rank of 2 and higher - that never even heard of page rank. They had organic visitors, even though their pages all had the same meta title and no description.

Content headers, aren't those just for looks?

You get my point, while at the same time I had large companies that had their website fully optimized, but were relying on PPC more than anything else.

The difference is passion, and the hard work that comes with it.

How to translate your passion for your business into results:

Content is king!

You might have heard this phrase before on SEO blogs or websites, but what does it really mean?

Don't type up a text simply to fill up another page with some keywords in it, hoping it'll get you ranking on Google.

Sit back and take the time to think about what information your visitors will be looking for. You can hire people to do this for you, I'm often hired as a copywriter myself, but honestly, no one knows your business like you do.

It's better to have 3 pages on your website that are beneficial and informative, rather than 10 pages and 20 blog posts of keyword rich garbage no one is going to read.

Think of it like this: if people won't read it, neither will search engines.

If you don't take the time to inform your visitors about who you are, what you do and why you're the best at doing it, why would anyone spend their precious time trying to find out? They won't!

Content quality should be the most important factor for your company's website. Unique, informative and pleasant to read quality.

Don't go looking at major company websites for guidelines, such as Nike or Apple. They're in an entirely different ballgame, I might cover this in another article soon if requested!

Interaction - shout it to the world!

Another important, scratch that, major role is interaction. It should be priority number 2 after number 1 content.

Imagine with me for a moment, your going to your favorite fast food place, order your usual meal and due to some promotion, you win a $100 gift card!

You're excited, you want to share it, so the first thing you do is call your spouse, friends - or for those with neither - your mom. Just kidding, but my point is, you feel the need to share it!

When you offer content, a product, a service or even a promotion you're proud of, you will want to do the same.

Share it with the world. Tweet about it, post about it, pin it. Don't stop there though, especially when you're a starting business or simply don't have much of a social network built up. Regardless of what business category you're in, there's always at least a few community websites that are eager to share your unique content.

After all, that's what community websites are all about, sharing interesting content with the niche they are focused on. Without this content, no one would be visiting these websites.

You know what's even better? While you're busy sharing the awesome content you're so proud of, you will inspire a few people to do the same.

  • If you're an insurance business and you're covering some hardcore beneficial information, people and even other insurance companies will share it to their followers or friends.
  • If you're a photographer and you've created a "how to take the perfect bridal photo" blog post, detailed with examples and guidelines, you can rest assure people will share this content.
My point is, regardless of what business category you're in, your awesome shared content is bound to draw in a public if you share it with the world.

Back links? They'll come automatically, and trust me when I say that they'll be more beneficial than submitting your website to various link directories.

Once the ball starts rolling, you will enjoy an auto pilot feeling of people sharing your content, linking to your content and drawing in more organic visitors (free visitors through search engines).

Search engines are going to take notice

When your awesome content is out in the world, it's being shared and it's drawing in more people - search engines are thinking "Hey, this page seems important, let's bump it up on our results pages."

The one and only goal of search engines is showing the results you're looking for when you type in a keyword and click search.

Your page with the awesome content you worked hard on, that's being shared not just by you but others as well, is bound to go up in search engine result pages. A well optimized page will only make this process quicker and easier for search engines, as you let them know what exactly it is you're offering.

So there you have it, the true and only way to receive real organic traffic in high volume to your website or blog.

Make sure you put the batteries in your clock, otherwise all the clock gears you've worked so hard on will never be really put to use.

(If you're reading this last sentence and have no clue what I'm talking about, you obviously scrolled through my delicious content! Start from the top, you won't regret it.)
